My wedding called off - Thank You Modi
Nov 24: Currency demonetisation stands as a blessing in disguise for this Delhi woman.
25 year old girl from East Delhi is practising as an independent lawyer. Eight months ago she was engaged to a senior executive at an MNC. Her distant relative brought this match proposal. Bride's parents promised passing things like car and jewellery as a token of gift!(dowry). But currency demonetisation made them unable to purchase those things. They assured the groom's parents that they will arrange them soon after monetary situation improves.
But groom's family not felt happy with their promise and started insulting them with embarrassing statements. They said "You are not giving your daughter anything special. This is an age old ritual practising by Indian households for generations. It seems that you have purposefully deprived us of what we supposed to get"
Bride's father said "We explained them that I have only two daughters and definitely they will inherit all the bank balance and property we have. But they insisted that the wedding to be postponed till the car and jewellery are arranged for. When we expressed our inability, they simply cancelled wedding."
Realising her groom's unlimited greed for dowry without observing her parents inability, she is very much happy for wedding being called off.
