B.tech Student Usharani Suicide - Police booked case on seniors
Succumbing to the mental trauma araised from the sexual harassment by senior students and parents aspirations B.Tech student V Usharani (19) committed suicide. Usharani, belongs to Tutapalli in Badwel of Kadapa district is studying at RGM Engineering College, Nandyal. She was being ragged, commented on her looks by senior students. After a point, the harassment kept on increase. She informed the situation to her parents and told that she wish to quit studies. Her parents thought that it might settle soon and convinced her to continue studies. It is said that during last week she went home and refused to go to college again as the seniors harassment has kept on increase. Parents and other family members convinced her and made a thought of lodging complaint about seniors harassment with the college management. On Thursday morning, her father Jayaram Reddy brought her back to college and promised her that he would stay at the college till evening. However, in the afternoon Usharani left the college and returned to the hostel where she reportedly finished her lunch and consumed a hair dye in an attempt to end her life. Later, she insisted her father to take her back to home. After travelling some distance from Nandyal, Usharani suffered with severe vomiting and confessed with her father that she has consumed hair dye to commit suicide. Jayaram Reddy lodged a complaint at the Badwel police station over the incident. Subsequently the case was transferred to Panyam police and investigation is going on. Badwel ZPTC Sirisha, the elder sister of Usharani told that they have been receiving threatening calls over the incident. She also requested the government to conduct special investigation as they don't have faith in the Nandyal Police investigation. Police booked cases on 7 senior students who allegedly involved in the incident. Student unions observing peaceful bandh and condemning college management attitude.
