Kodandaram held as anti-Mallannasagar protests increase

However much the State government is trying to divert the attention from the Mallannasagar project oustees woes, the problem is compounding with a suicide and an agitation by the affected people. On Sunday, the police resorted to a lathi-charge and opened fire in the air to quell a mob that retaliated by attacking the posse of police with stones in Medak district. Also, Political JAC Chairman, Prof Kodandaram, was obstructed at Ontimamidi where he was arrested while on his way to address the affected farmers on Monday. As the police barred their further progress, the Political JAC got into an argument with the police. When there was no way out, the police arrested Prof Kodandaram. There was also some pushing by the police and the JAC leaders. There was tension in the area following the arrest of Prof Kodandaram.
