Only projects can prevent farmers' suicides: Harish

Only irrigation water can close the floodgates of farmers' suicides. For supply of irrigation water, we need projects. For Project construction, land acquisition is unavoidable. Prefacing his one-hour media meeting at Sangareddi with the quotable quote, Telangana Major Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao vowed to construct the Komaravelli Mallannasagar project, come what may. He went on to say that for grounding projects, land acquisition was unavoidable. The TRS government would give adequate compensation to farmers. For the villages coming under submergence (reportedly 14), the government was prepared to provide the people there with better villages. While doing so, the government would amend the law to ensure that the same sarpanchs and MPTCs continued in the developed villages, he said. Harish Rao urged the people to take the compensation cheque with one hand and hand over their lands with the other hand. Harish said he was indebted to the people of Medak deeply. He was doing his best for them as Irrigation Minister. He would not need any higher position. This was enough for him. He would pay back his debt to the Medak people before the term ends.
