Pallava queen's gift to Tirumala to be celebrated

To commemorate the historical and ceremonious occasion wherein Pallava queen Samavai donated the silver Bhoga Srinivasa Murthy idol to Tirumala way back in 614 AD, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams will observe special Sahasra Kalasabhishekam on Saturday in the Tirumala shrine. This special ritual will take place at Bangaru Vakili between 6am and 8am on June 11. The arjitha sevas like Kalyanotsavam, Unjalseva, arjitha brahmotsavam, vasanthotsavam and sahasradeepalankara seva will take place as usual on that day. The TTD has cancelled VIP break darshan on that day in view of the anticipated week-end pilgrim rush. Speaking to media persons, JEO K S Sreenivasa Raju said except protocol VIPs, the break darshan is cancelled on that day because of the religious event. In the month of Jyestha, in the year 614 A.D., the Pallava queen Samavai Perindevi donated 18 inches tall silver idol of Sri Bhoga Srinivasa Murthy to the Tirumala shrine. The inscription about this donation can be seen on the wall below Vimana Venkateswara Shrine in the first Prakaram. This silver idol is part of the Pancha beras and this is known as ‘Kautuka Murthy’ in Agamic jargon. To commemorate this auspicious day of consecration of the silver idol, Special Sahasra Kalasabhishekam is performed to Bhoga Srinivasa Murthy idol in the morning after I bell. The TTD has been observing this fete for the past one decade.
