Suresh Prabhu flags off fastest Gatimaan Express from Delhi
The Gatimaan Express, country's fastest superfast train, was flagged off at New Delhi by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Tuesday morning. The express can attain speed of 160 kmph during the run.
The train operates between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Agra Cantt. It will run six days a week except on Fridays.
Prabhu described the launch of the train as heralding a new era in high-speed rail travel in India. Even in his budget speech, the Minister had made the point to increase the speeds of both travel and freight trains. But for that, both the runinng and maintenance staff have to be alert round the clock. The Railwaymen, therefore, are expected to do much more.
Such things as becoming a Railway Board member at a cost of payment of Rs 9 crore should be a thing of the past, as was the case during the Congress-led UPA regime. The Railways must ensure safe journey round the clock.
