The Panama Papers comprise 11 million documents from the secret files of Mossack Fonseca, which is a tax haven headquartered in Panama. The tax haven is known for its assembly-line production of opffshore companies for its clientele worldwide. The individuals pay to the firm to benefit from its secretive and lax regulatory system. The firm help mask the real ownership of the firms. Apart from the 500 Indians in the Panama Papers, there are 234 Indain passport holders seeking the incorporation of their shady firms. Two politicians who figure among the 500 are Anurag Kejriwal, former chief of the Delhi unit of the Loksatta party, and Shishir Bajoria of West Bengal. Among the Indians is stated to be one living in a chawl (one-room tenement in a building complex) in Mumbai. The Fonseca records were accessed by Munich-based German newspaper `Suddeutsche Zeitung' which along with some media the world over is investigating its contents. Kingfisher airline owner vijay Mallya also figured in the list.
