Centre lifts President's rule in Arunachal
The Central government has recommended to Pranab Mukherjee the lifting of President's rule imposed on Arunachal Pradesh last month owing to dissensions within the Congress party and because of the crucial nature of the border State. The Centre told the Supreme Court on Tuesday that it wanted the lifting of the President's rule to make way for a new government with dissident Congress leader Kalikho Pul as Chief Minister. Pul had already staked his claim to form the government. Even as the opposition in the country was trying to get an idea on Arunachal impasse, the BJP-led Centre agreed to lifting President's rule. The Supreme Court refused to intervene in the matter. The Central decision was taken at a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday morning.
