Governor urged to implement Section 8 in City
Congress and all-party leaders in Hyderabad have demanded the implementation of Section 8 of the AP Reorganisation Act, authorising the Governor to control law and order in Hyderabad, the joint capital of post-split Andhra Pradesh. They said on Wednesday that the TRS government had failed in controlling the law and order. Yesterday's incidents during the GHMC poll was a case in point. Two Congress leaders Uttam Kumar Reddy and Md Shabbir Ali were beaten by a mob of AIMIM workers in Old City. The Congress leader, Jana Reddy, and Dr. Laxman (BJP) and L. Ramana (TDP) made the request to Governor ESL Narasimhan, urging him to save law and order in Hyderabad. The leaders said they would shortly be meeting the President, the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister to impress on them the need for Section 8 implementation in Hyderabad. In the Puranapul incident in Old City, Uttam Kumar and Shabbir Ali were beaten up and the latter suffered an eye injury.
