Schools in Delhi likely to be shut for 15 days from Jan 1
Hyderabad, Dec 12: The government of Delhi is believed to be considering closing schools in the city from January 1 to 15. This development comes as the state government is deliberating to permit cars with odd and even numbers on alternate days in order to reduce air pollution levels in the city. With a view to provide alternate transport facility during the two weeks, the government proposes to rope in 6,000 private buses to ferry as public buses in Delhi. As at least 2,000 of them are likely to be school buses, the government has given a call to shut the schools for the 15 days. Delhi education minister and deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said, "We will only take decisions after consulting schools. We have 26 lakh children in Delhi schools, they are big stakeholders. There has been a proposal to shut schools between 1st to 15th January. We are considering it."
