Heavy rains lash Tirumala, ghat road experiences landslips

Hyderabad, Nov 9: Incessant rains lashed Tirumala shrine of Lord Venkateswara during the last 48 hours. The rains brought a respite to the parched town that registered about 180 mm of rainfall in the last two days. Tirumala and Tirupati were battered by rains since Saturday night. At least 130 mm of rainfall was received on Sunday night alone. The incessant rains boosted water storage levels at all four major drinking water projects at Tirumala. TTDs Superintendent Engineer (SE-II) Ramachandra Reddy said the storage levels to have increased by about 66 million gallons of water by this afternoon. Meanwhile, the second ghat road leading to Tirumala witnessed landslips at three different places on Monday. However, vehicular traffic remained unaffected.
