Krishna, Penna rivers should be interlinked: Chandrababu
Podalakur (Nellore), Oct 30: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu stressed the need to interlink Penna and Krishna rivers to insulate Nellore district from drought.
The CM was speaking at a public meeting at Podalakur in the district. He observed that drought conditions in the state were a result of ecological imbalance.
He called upon the people to preserve ecological balance. All the irrigation projects in the state are short of 500 tmcs of water even as 1,800 tmcs of Godavari water has gone waste into the sea, he said.
The CM claimed that AP has initiated river-linking in the country by linking River Godavari with Krishna.
The CM said that Neeru Chettu programme was launched to promote sustainable use of water resources.
The CM said that drought impact can be minimised by interlinking rivers, promoting groundwater resources and better water management practices.
He also inspected irrigation projects in the district.
