Cash transfer scheme saves Rs 14,672 crore on LPG subsidy in a year

Mumbai, Oct 13: The Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) popularly known as cash transfer scheme helped the government to save Rs 14,672 crore on LPG (cooking gas) subsidy in a year. In a statement released yesterday, Petroleum Ministry said that there were 18.19 crore registered LPG consumers in the country as on April 1, 2015 and among them 14.85 are active consumers indicating a gap of 3.34 crore connections which are fake/inactive/duplicate. Duplicate and Fake domestic LPG connection were blocked under DBT scheme called PAHAL. The Petroleum Ministry blocked 3.34 crore domestic gas connection which resulted in saving of Rs 14,672 crore on gas subsidy.
