Crop failure: Tenant farmer commits suicide in Krishna dist
Vijayawada, Sep 23: A tenant farmer committed suicide at Kummarikuntla village of A Konduru mandal in Krishna district today. Bhukya Matthaiah owns one acre land. He leased the land from others, cultivated cotton and paddy crops and incurred heavy loss. Matthaiah had debts amounting to Rs 3 lakh. Unable to bear the mounting debt burden, Matthaiah consumed pesticide in the morning. He died on the way to hospital. He is survived by wife and two children. The situation is further worse in Telangana and nine farmers committed suicide on the day. According to reports, P Balaswamy and Kishan Reddy from Mahbubnagar, Krupakar Reddy from Nalgonda, Lakshman from Ranga Reddy, Gangidi Pentaiah and Balaiah from Medak and Somaiah, Papaiah and Shyam Raj from Warangal district committed suicide due to crop failure and mounting debt burden.
