CSK Eliminated from IPL 2026 Playoffs After 89 Run Crushing Defeat to Gujarat Titans
Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) IPL 2026 campaign came to a disappointing end as they suffered a massive 89-run defeat against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday. With this loss, CSK have been officially knocked out of the playoff race.

Gujarat Titans produced a clinical all-round performance to register a commanding victory. The win has virtually confirmed a top-two finish for the Titans, strengthening their position in the playoff standings.

Electing to bat first after losing the toss, Gujarat Titans got off to a flying start. Openers Shubman Gill (64 off 37 balls) and Sai Sudharsan (84 off 53 balls) forged a solid 125-run partnership for the first wicket. Jos Buttler then unleashed a destructive cameo, smashing an unbeaten 57 off just 27 balls, studded with 5 fours and 4 sixes. Thanks to this explosive batting display, Gujarat posted a formidable total of 229 for 4 in 20 overs.

Chasing 230, CSK got off to a nightmare start as Sanju Samson was dismissed for a duck on the very first ball. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s quick 16 provided only brief resistance. Mohammed Siraj struck early with crucial breakthroughs, putting CSK on the back foot. Although Shivam Dube fought bravely with a quickfire 47 off 17 balls, the rest of the batting lineup failed to deliver. CSK were bowled out for just 140 in 13.4 overs.

Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, and Rashid Khan starred with the ball for Gujarat Titans, each picking up three wickets and dismantling the CSK innings.

The comprehensive victory not only boosted Gujarat Titans’ playoff hopes but also highlighted the continued struggles of the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings this season.
