Case Registered Against Jagan in Singaiah Death Incident, Announces Guntur SP
A significant development has taken place in the case concerning the death of an elderly man named Singaiah during the Palnadu tour of former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. Guntur district Superintendent of Police Sateesh Kumar has announced that Jagan Mohan Reddy has been named as an accused in the case. He made this statement during a press conference held at the SP office in Guntur on Sunday night.
Sateesh Kumar explained that the tragic incident occurred on June 18 at the Etukuru Road Bypass in Guntur during Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tour of the Palnadu region. Singaiah, an elderly man found critically injured at the roadside, was taken to the hospital, where doctors confirmed that he had died. Based on a complaint lodged by Singaiah's wife, an initial case was registered.
He further stated that an in-depth investigation was subsequently launched, which included the detailed analysis of CCTV footage, drone camera visuals, and videos recorded by bystanders at the scene. “In one of the videos obtained, it is clearly visible that the deceased Singaiah fell under the Fortuner vehicle carrying former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, and the vehicle’s tyre ran over him,” said Sateesh Kumar. Citing this critical evidence, he stated that the sections under which the case was registered were amended, and a case was now booked under Sections 105 (causing death by negligence) and 49 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The SP stated that in addition to the vehicle’s driver, Ramana Reddy, former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, and individuals believed to be part of the convoy Nageshwar Reddy, Subbareddy, and former ministers Perni Nani and Vidadala Rajini have all been included in the list of accused.
“We granted permission for only 14 vehicles for Jagan’s convoy. However, when the convoy began from Tadepalli, nearly 50 vehicles were involved in the tour,” said Sateesh Kumar. He added that the investigation was ongoing based on the available evidence and that further actions would be taken as per the law.
Sateesh Kumar clarified that the incident occurred on June 18 while Jagan Mohan Reddy was en route to unveil a statue in Sattenapalli constituency. On the day of the incident, authorities had stated—based on the available information at the time—that Singaiah had fallen under a different private vehicle. However, he said that more facts had come to light during the detailed investigation. He concluded by saying the investigation would continue impartially and that a final decision would be made in accordance with the law.
