Hyderabad's inclement weather has led to a surge in pink eye cases, specifically follicular conjunctivitis, as reported by senior ophthalmologists from LV Prasad Eye Institute. Not limited to Telangana, this rise is seen nationwide due to the cold and wet conditions. In July alone, LVPEI treated around 1,000 conjunctivitis patients in Telangana and Odisha, mostly affected by the adenovirus. While not typically vision-threatening, timely treatment and care are crucial to prevent complications. Infected individuals must isolate, practice frequent handwashing, and avoid eye touching. Public health officials urge caution and discourage self-medication with antibiotics and steroids. Symptoms include redness, itching, eye discharge, and sensitivity to light.
