The National Medical Commission (NMC) has recently released updated regulations for students pursuing MBBS degrees. Under the newly issued Graduate Medical Education Regulations 2023 (GMER-23), all students enrolled in MBBS programs must successfully complete their degree within nine years from the date of their admission. In addition, the NMC has announced that undergraduate admissions to medical institutions will be conducted through common counselling following the declaration of NEET UG results. According to the NMC, students who fail in any subject during any academic year must pass those subjects in subsequent attempts in order to progress to the next year of their MBBS course. The GMER-23 regulations specify that students will not be permitted more than four attempts in their first year of the MBBS program.
