The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has been facing severe backlash for its recent "rationalization" of textbooks, and now the Kerala student union has joined the cause by protesting outside the AG's office in Thiruvananthapuram. Reports suggest that the police resorted to using water cannons and tear gas shells to disperse the crowd, which comprised approximately 300 members of the Kerala Students Union who raised slogans against the central government. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had earlier condemned the removal of certain chapters and portions from NCERT Class 12 textbooks, stating that the move was a part of a larger objective to "completely saffronize" academic books. The Kerala government has been vocal about its opposition to the changes made by NCERT and has promised to take necessary action to address the issue.
