The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been granted national party status by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday, while the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), and Communist Party of India (CPI) had their status revoked. This decision came after the ECI had issued show-cause notices to the three parties in July 2019, asking them to explain why their national party status should not be revoked, following their poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections that year.
