Kakinada: On Monday, Kakinada Collector Krithika Shukla inaugurated Andhra Pradesh's first mothers' milk bank, called the Dhaatri Lactation Management Unit, at the Government General Hospital (GGH-Kakinada). The purpose of the milk bank is to aid newborns in emergency medical care and promote breastfeeding. Collector Krithika explained that milk from lactating mothers would be collected and stored in the bank, which was made possible by the ₹50 lakh funding from the Sushena Health Foundation and Dhaatri Foundation. The newborns at the hospital who need breast milk during treatment were previously being fed artificial milk, but the milk bank will provide them with a healthier option. In addition to providing a healthier option for newborns in need, the milk bank will also encourage and promote breastfeeding for the first six months of the baby's life. The opening of Andhra Pradesh's first mothers' milk bank is a significant step towards ensuring the health and wellbeing of newborns in the region.
