Telangana's irrigation sector was in disarray before to the state's establishment, with a budget of only 38,000 crore rupees allocated over ten years. The state government, led by Chief Minister KCR, has taken a multi-pronged approach to increasing irrigation coverage. Following the establishment of Telangana state in 2014, the government took strong steps to develop the irrigation sector. In the last seven years, the overall spend in the irrigation industry has increased by a phenomenal Rs.1,28,000 crores. Some of the examples are Palamuru Rangareddy, Sitharaman lift irrigation projects, and Kaleswara lift irrigation schemes, which were initiated and developed by KCR's government. It also launched Mission Kakatiya, which brought a noble solution from the 11th century Kakatiya dynasty into the twenty-first century.
