Governor Tamilisai calls for concrete action plan to address the malnutrition among tribal people

Hyderabad, March 10: Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan on Wednesday called for a concrete action plan to take care of malnutrition among primitive tribal people in the State.

The Governor stated that it was high time that we came out with a definite action plan and its effective implementation to address the malnutrition problem among primitive tribal people.

Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan was reviewing the socio-economic and health conditions of the people living in schedule areas in the State through a video conference from Puducherry, where she is holding an additional charge as the Lt. Governor.

The Governor reviewed with the representatives of the National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad, and Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) branches of Nagarkurnool, Mahabubnagar, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Adilabad, and Jayashankar Bhupalapalli districts.

Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan emphasised on promoting institutional deliveries, taking up de-worming initiative for children’s health, ensuring protein rich and balanced diet to prevent the protein-deficiency and anaemia among the pregnant women and lactating mothers, and other women on a priority basis.

“It is important to ensure that all the welfare schemes of the government are made accessible to the tribal people living in schedule areas. There must be all out efforts to create awareness and access all the facilities and schemes offered by the government among the tribal people,” she added.

The Governor pointed out that offering self-employment and skill development training programmes, creation of employment opportunities and improving livelihoods are necessary for their holistic development.

India is helping the world in vaccination: Governor
Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan on Wednesday said that we must be proud that India was helping the world get immunised against the Covid-19.“Our indigenously developed vaccines are being utilised in more than 55 countries across globe. Even Pakistan is also getting our Made in India vaccine,” she added.

She stated that Hyderabad is steadily emerging as the pharma and vaccine capital of the world and appreciated the role of Hyderabad in vaccine development, production, and supply.

The Governor was virtually addressing the 1st Annual Day celebrations of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bibingar, near here, on Wednesday.

“During my medical college days, 30 years ago, our country used to wait for the vaccines to be imported from other countries. Now we have emerged as the leading producer and supplier of vaccines to the world,” she added.

Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan exhorted the doctors to intensify their research to come up with medical innovations and help prevent and treat different diseases.
 
The Governor, a reputed medical professional herself, exhorted the young doctors to be more patient towards their patients and advised them to hear the complaints of patients with care and concern.

She appreciated the plans of the AIIMS, Bibingar, to construct the 750-bedded hospital and different blocks like medical college, academic block, hostels etc.
