OG Movie Review
- Pawan Kalyan shines with his stylish screen presence
- Power Star’s trademark charisma dominates
- Sujeeth keeps the screenplay fast-paced
- Thaman delivers a powerful background score
- Content revolves mainly around Pawan’s style
After being busy in politics for years, Pawan Kalyan chose small-scale films and remakes to suit his schedule. His period film Hari Hara Veera Mallu disappointed fans, but his next project OG (They Call Him OG), directed by Sujeeth under DVV Entertainment, has now released. Let’s see how the movie fares.
Plot Summary
Satya Dada (Prakash Raj), who builds a port in Mumbai, hides a container filled with dangerous RDX to prevent a disaster. But the container belongs to mafia don Omi (Emraan Hashmi), who sends his brother Jimmy (Sudev Nair) to retrieve it. Jimmy kills Satya Dada’s son Parthu (Venkat) and goes after Satya Dada.
Geethamma (Sriya Reddy) believes that only OG can save Satya Dada. However, OG has been away from Mumbai for 15 years, living peacefully with his wife Kanmani (Priyanka Mohan) and daughter Tara. He returns when Satya Dada is in danger, but faces enmity from Geethamma’s son Arjun (Arjun Das), who wants to kill him. Why is OG distanced from Satya Dada? Why does Arjun hold a grudge against him? What is Omi’s real intention? These questions drive the story.
Analysis
The story begins in the 1940s, touches the 70s, and settles in the 90s, with period-appropriate costumes and settings. Many characters come and go, but after Pawan Kalyan, Emraan Hashmi, Prakash Raj, Sriya Reddy, and Arjun Das get prominence. Priyanka Mohan’s role is minimal.
Sujeeth’s story itself isn’t fresh, but the screenplay’s pace, Pawan Kalyan’s style, and Thaman’s music elevate the film. The action, blending martial arts and weapons, is designed for whistles and cheers. Fans will thoroughly enjoy OG’s sword, knife, and gun fights.
Though there are several characters, the real power is only seen in Pawan’s role. Sriya Reddy’s role is passable, while Arjun Das’s track feels underdeveloped. Villains appear one after another, which gets repetitive. The heroine’s track is routine as well. Ultimately, Sujeeth’s focus is not on storytelling but on showing Pawan in the way fans want to see him.
Performances
Pawan Kalyan steals the show with his stylish looks, energetic body language, and powerful screen presence. He dominates the entire film, leaving no room for others to stand out. Priyanka Mohan’s role is very limited. Among others, Emraan Hashmi, Prakash Raj, and Sriya Reddy do justice to their parts but remain overshadowed.
Technical Aspects
Sujeeth’s story isn’t new, but his screenplay and stylish presentation work well. Action sequences are designed impressively. The initial Japan-Tokyo setup is confusing, but later the film settles.
Thaman is the film’s biggest asset — his background score elevates the action and drama tremendously. Cinematography by Ravi K. Chandran and Manoj Paramahamsa is visually pleasing. Naveen Nooli’s editing is decent.
Final Verdict
OG is all about Pawan Kalyan’s swag, dialogue delivery, and screen presence. Sujeeth downplays the story and emphasizes Pawan’s larger-than-life persona, which fans have been waiting to see for years. For Power Star’s fans, this film is a celebration. For others, it remains a stylish but routine action drama.
