On Wednesday, Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi voiced her support for the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam 2023' (Women's Reservation Bill) in the Lok Sabha. She recalled that her late husband and former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, had dreamt of this bill. While endorsing the bill, Gandhi stressed on the urgency of implementing it with reservations for women from SC, ST, and OBC communities. She invoked prominent women leaders, emphasizing women's contributions to Indian politics. The proposed bill suggests reservations for women for 15 years, with quotas for SC and STs within these seats. However, its implementation might wait until after the 2024 elections, possibly in 2029, post the delimitation process.
