For the first time in India's broadcasting history, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will ask digital platforms to pay more than TV channels for showing cricket matches. Last week, BCCI put out an auction offer. In this, they set the combined base price (for both TV and Digital) at Rs 45 crore per game for all international cricket matches India will play at home in the next five years. The surprising part is that the price for digital rights alone is Rs 50 crore per game, while TV rights are Rs 40 crore per game. This means digital is more expensive than TV. What's even more interesting is that the combined TV and Digital price is less than just the digital price. In the past, Disney Star paid Rs 61 crore for each match, but this price has now gone down.
