After the Supreme Court put a hold on Rahul Gandhi's conviction in a 2019 defamation case on Friday, Congress MPs in the Lok Sabha met with Speaker Om Birla. They asked that Rahul Gandhi's membership, which was taken away after his conviction, be given back. Rahul Gandhi had been representing the Wayanad constituency in Kerala in the Lok Sabha. Reports say that the Congress MPs gave the Supreme Court's documents to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. On Friday, a group of judges, including Justices BR Gavai, PS Narasimha, and PV Sanjay Kumar, listened to Rahul Gandhi's plea. He was challenging the decision of the Gujarat High Court, which had not agreed to put a hold on his conviction. The judges said that the trial court did not give reasons for giving him the maximum penalty of two years. So, they decided to put a hold on his conviction in the case.
