Hyderabad: A tragic accident unfolded in Jhalakathi Sadar district, southwestern Bangladesh, when a bus carrying 60-70 passengers veered off the road and plunged into a large pond on the roadside. As a result of the horrifying incident, 17 people lost their lives, and over a dozen others sustained injuries. According to local reports, the ill-fated bus was en route from Bhandari to Barishal when the tragic accident occurred. Rescuers, including courageous divers, worked tirelessly to retrieve 17 bodies from the submerged bus in the water-filled pond. The challenging recovery operation was further compounded by heavy monsoon rains that caused the pond to fill with water. Among the deceased were seven minors and five women, adding to the heartbreak of the situation. At least 35 passengers were injured in the accident and immediately transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. Thirteen bodies were recovered from the accident site, while four passengers succumbed to their injuries while undergoing medical care
