Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India has recently announced that the Bharata Rashtra Samithi (BRS) will retain its regional party status in Telangana, but it has been denied state party status in the neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh. The EC cited the failure of the party to meet the prescribed norms and conditions as the reason for the denial. The EC cited that the BRS did not contest in the Andhra Pradesh 2019's Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. Consequently, the party's performance did not meet any of the criteria set for recognition as a state party in the state.
