KTR Condemns Center's Decision to Reject Hyderabad Metro Proposal
The decision of the BJP-led government to reject the proposal for the second phase of Hyderabad Metro has sparked outrage from Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister, K.T. Rama Rao. Inaugurating the 'Lakes Development Programme' at Khajaguda Lake, the minister strongly objected to what he called "blatant discrimination" against Hyderabad.
Media reports have suggested that the Centre rejected the extension of Metro from Lakdikapul to BHEL and Nagole to LB Nagar citing feasibility concerns. However, the minister was quick to point out that the Centre had sanctioned Metro projects for many other cities with lower traffic, raising questions about why Hyderabad was not deemed suitable for such a project.
