On Sunday, Kiran Kumar Reddy, the last Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, tendered his resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress in a letter addressed to the party president. In the letter, he expressed his wish to step down from the party. Sources close to the matter suggest that Reddy might be considering joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This comes as no surprise as Reddy had previously resigned from Congress in 2014 when the UPA government announced its decision to divide the state and create a separate Telangana. Following his resignation, he established his own political party, the Jai Samaikyandhra Party, and contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. After failing to secure any significant electoral gains in the next four years, Reddy returned to the Congress party in 2018.
