Income Tax officials conduct searches at BBC office
New Delhi: Income Tax officials carrying a search operation at the BBC office in New Delhi. According to sources, the officials confiscated some vital documents and mobile phones from the employees. The employees were reportedly asked to work from home during the search.
This search operation comes amidst a controversy surrounding the documentary 'India: The Modi Question' produced by the BBC on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The documentary examines the 2002 Gujarat riots and their aftermath.
The Supreme Court had earlier declined to entertain a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Hindu Sena seeking a ban on the documentary. The reasons for the Income Tax search operation are not yet clear.
