New Delhi: Union Minister for Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology reported to the Rajya Sabha that 50 government websites were hacked in 2022-23. In response to a parliamentary question raised by CPI MP Binoy Viswam, the Minister informed that 59, 42, and 50 websites of the Central Government Ministries/Departments and State Governments were hacked in 2020, 2021, and 2022 respectively, according to information tracked by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In). The Minister also reported that CERT-In detected and prevented 2,83,581, 4,32,057, and 3,24,620 malicious scams in 2020, 2021, and 2022 respectively. He stated that 6, 7, and 8 data breaches related to government organizations were observed during the years 2020, 2021, and 2022 respectively. The Minister added that cyber-attacks on Indian cyberspace from both inside and outside the country have been attempted and can compromise computer systems located globally, often using masquerading techniques and hidden servers to conceal their identity.
