On September 17, which is designated as 'Hyderabad Liberation Day,' the BJP and the state's current TRS administration engaged in a significant political confrontation in Telangana. Depending on one's political viewpoint, Hyderabad commemorates either the state's freedom from Nizami rule or its integration into the Indian Union. While Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao observes 'Telangana National Integration Day,' Union Home Minister Amit Shah observes the same historic occasion a short distance away under the moniker 'Hyderabad Liberation Day.' A year after India's independence, on this day, the former Nizam-ruled Hyderabad State joined the Indian Union. The Nizam-ruled Hyderabad state at the time was incorporated into the Union of India on September 17, 1948, as a result of a military operation started by the then-home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
