A crackdown on Islamist extremism, the UK's most "serious terror danger," was promised by British-Indian prime ministerial candidate Rishi Sunak on Wednesday. He called for a broader government definition of extremism and stronger terrorism laws. In addition, the 42-year-old former chancellor promised to refocus the failed prevent programme, a government initiative designed to combat Islamist extremism, and to shut down organisations that support extremism in the UK. There have been too many instances of publicly sponsored charities and organisations being accused of spreading extremist ideology in the UK, according to the Indian-origin candidate running to replace outgoing Tory leader and Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was born in the UK. He wants to adopt a Bill of Rights to make it simpler to distinguish terrorists from the rest of the prison population if he is elected prime minister.
