In a surprising nature's fury, several fully grown evergreen trees, as well as boulders and mud, fell into an Alaska bay, burying the road and shutting off access to hundreds of people. According to City Manager Janette Bower, there were no casualties in the Saturday evening landslide roughly a half-mile (0.8 kilometre) south of downtown Seward. She predicted that the slide would take up to two weeks to remove because it was 200 feet long and 300 feet broad. Around 200 locals and visitors have been unable to access Seward due to the avalanche. It's unknown what caused the landslide, although falling rocks and avalanches are common on Lowell Road, according to some accounts. According to reports, the state is deploying geologists equipped with drones to aid in assessment operations.
