MIM Akbaruddin Owaisi acquitted in hate speech case
Telangana MLA Akabaruddin Owaisi, brother of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, has been acquitted in both hate speech charges filed against him in 2012. A special court in Nampally, Hyderabad, was hearing two complaints filed against All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi for allegedly making hate remarks.
In 2012, the MLA was accused under the Indian Penal Code in Nirmal (previously Adilabad district) and Nizamabad for 'criminal conspiracy' and 'promoting animosity between two groups based on religion,' among other things.
While speaking to the media, the defence counsel for MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi indicated that his client was acquitted on the basis of reasonable doubt since evidences were presented to the court in a fragmented manner, and that this was not the continuation of his speech. He stated that if the evidences are not proven, the Forensic Scientific Laboratory (FSL) findings cannot stand.
