Guntur: Loan app harassment drives woman to suicide

Guntur, July 12: A married woman committed suicide by hanging to a hoarding located above the apartment in which she is residing in Chinakakani on Monday morning. She was identified as Pratyusha. According to police, the deceased took personal loan of Rs 20,000 from Indiabulls app and repaid Rs 12,000. However, she received numerous calls from call centre asking her to repay remaining amount immediately.
 
As she could not do so, they sent Pratyusha’s morphed nude photos to her relatives and friends. Unable to bear harassment, she recorded a selfie video and took extreme step. On receiving information, the police reached the spot and shifted her body to Government General Hospital in Mangalagiri.
 
Based on the complaint of deceased’s husband, Sub-Inspector Vijaykumar Reddy registered a case and took up investigation. Meanwhile, family members and relatives demanded that the police should take stern action against those responsible for Pratyusha’s death. The SI made an appeal to people not to take loans from private apps.
