Mahabubnagar: Hours after marriage bride commits suicide

Mahabubnagar: Depressed over performing marriage against her wish, newly wed committed suicide by consuming pesticide-laced drink in Mahabubnagar district headquarters. According to reports, G Padma, a daily labourer, had fixed her elder daughter Lakshmi’s marriage with relative’s son Mallikarjuna of Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh.
 
The 19-year-old, who studied up to tenth standard, reportedly told her mother that she doesn’t want to marry Mallikarjuna as his native place is very far from Mahabubnagar. But the elders did not heed to her request and marriage was performed grandly on Friday (May 13).
 
Within a few hours of marriage, she took extreme step. Family members and relatives rushed her to Government General Hospital. Doctors declared that she was brought dead. Kin of Lakshmi said that she danced with groom soon after the wedding and they never expected she was not happy with the marriage. The police registered a case and took up investigation.
