Not Baahubali or RRR… Rajamouli Reveals Which Film He Considers His Best
Top Telugu filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli, known globally for his blockbuster hits Baahubali and RRR, revealed which film he considers to be his best—not either of the two global successes. Both Baahubali and RRR elevated Telugu cinema to international prominence, broke numerous box office records, and earned global recognition, with RRR even winning an Oscar. However, during the pre-release event of the film Junior, Rajamouli disclosed that another film holds the top spot in his personal list.
Rajamouli attended the pre-release event of Junior as the chief guest. The film marks the acting debut of Kireeti Reddy, son of Gali Janardhan Reddy, while actress Sreeleela plays the female lead. The film is set for a grand release on the 18th of this month. Speaking at the event held on Wednesday, Rajamouli shared several interesting insights.
When anchor Suma displayed posters and behind-the-scenes images from Rajamouli’s filmography on the screen and asked him about them, an image from Eega was shown. Rajamouli immediately identified it, saying, “This is from Eega. That is my best movie.” With this, it became clear that Rajamouli considers Eega to be his finest work among his films.
Rajamouli also made a comment about actress Genelia, who is making her return to Telugu cinema with Junior. He said, “Genelia hasn’t changed at all. She’s just the same as she was before—same beauty, same grace. Senthil promised we would see a new Genelia in this film, so I’m eagerly looking forward to it.”
Praising lead actor Kireeti, Rajamouli said that cinematographer Senthil Kumar and fight master Peter Hein told him that Kireeti performed well in the film. “If both of them say that, then it must be true,” Rajamouli stated.
Reflecting on his career, Rajamouli said the film Sye was a turning point. “After Simhadri, I was seen as a mass director. Sye, which was a new experiment based on the sport of rugby, helped me shed that image. It gave me the courage to pursue the kind of stories I believe in,” he said. Referring to a photo with actor Prabhas shown during the event, Rajamouli fondly recalled Prabhas’s love for food.
Junior is directed by Radhakrishna Reddy and features music by Devi Sri Prasad. The song “Viral Vayyari,” which has already been released, is trending on social media. The film will be released across more than 1,000 screens.
