Bollywood Actress Surveen Chawla Details Casting Couch Incident After Marriage
Bollywood actress Surveen Chawla has once again come forward to speak candidly about the dark realities of the film industry, particularly her disturbing encounters with the casting couch. In her latest revelation, she shared a shocking incident that occurred even after she was married.
Speaking on the podcast The Male Feminist, Surveen Chawla recounted an uncomfortable experience involving a film director in Mumbai. “This happened in a director’s office located on Veera Desai Road, Mumbai. After the meeting inside his office cabin had ended—by then, I was already married—he had even asked me about my marital life, about my husband and his profession. It was just the two of us in the cabin. As I was leaving, he leaned in and tried to kiss me. I was shocked. I pushed him back and asked him what he thought he was doing, and I walked out immediately. Still, he followed me all the way to the gate,” said Surveen Chawla, describing the harrowing experience.
She also mentioned another troubling incident involving a South Indian film director who had received a national award. Surveen Chawla alleged that during a film shoot, this director conveyed—through a mutual acquaintance—that he wanted to sleep with her. According to her, such incidents expose the appalling behavior exhibited by certain individuals in the industry.
Surveen Chawla also spoke about facing body shaming, particularly in the South Indian film industry. “Nowadays, they say it politely, but during my time, they would say it to my face. And I would respond to them directly, on their face,” she stated.
In a past interaction with RJ Siddharth Kannan, Surveen had also commented on the pervasive trend of body shaming in the film industry. “Their entire agenda seems to be to make you feel insecure. They question everything—your weight, waist size, chest size,” she had said, expressing her anguish.
