India-Turkey Trade Hit as Marble Imports Face Boycott
In the wake of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, Turkey, which has taken a supportive stance towards Pakistan, has been dealt a major commercial blow. Following the suspension of apple imports from Turkey by business circles in Pune, marble traders in Udaipur, Rajasthan, have made a sensational decision to completely halt marble imports from Turkey.

This decision is intended not only to express solidarity with the Indian government but also to boost the domestic marble industry. Udaipur, renowned as the largest marble export hub in Asia, saw a significant resolution passed by the Marble Processors Committee. Committee President Kapil Surana revealed that “in protest against Turkey’s support to Pakistan, all members of our committee unanimously decided to sever trade relations with Turkey.”

Kapil Surana noted that nearly 70 percent of marble imported into India comes from Turkey. He emphasized that this move should not be limited to Udaipur alone. “If all marble associations across the country cease trade with Turkey, it will send a powerful message to the world. It will clearly demonstrate that the Indian government is not alone, and that the nation’s industries and the Indian people firmly stand with the government,” he stated.

Kapil Surana expressed optimism that halting trade with Turkey would significantly increase demand for Indian marble, thereby enhancing the growth of the domestic industry. Analysts believe this 'Boycott Turkey' call may extend to other sectors as well. Several commentators noted that this measure could impact Turkey’s economy and serve as a warning to countries supporting Pakistan on international platforms.

The move follows recent developments after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. In its aftermath, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and expressed his support. Additionally, reports emerged that a military transport aircraft had delivered drones to Pakistan. Debris from downed drones recovered by India confirmed the presence of Turkish-manufactured Asisguard Songar drone components, verifying Turkey’s military assistance to Pakistan. This development has ignited widespread opposition towards Turkey within India.
