TTD Offers Free Training in Traditional Temple Arts for 2025–26
With the noble aim of preserving and promoting the ancient Indian temple architecture and sculptural heritage for future generations, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is undertaking significant initiatives. As part of this effort, TTD is offering free training to interested youth through the Sri Venkateswara Traditional Temple Architecture and Sculpture Training Institute. For the academic year 2025–26, TTD has announced admissions for various courses under its administration.
This institute is notably the only one of its kind managed by TTD in Andhra Pradesh. Established in 1960, it is dedicated to training skilled sculptors and architects in accordance with traditional sculptural principles, reflecting Indian culture and heritage. The training includes temple architecture, various sculpture arts, and traditional painting.
Available Courses and Facilities
The institute offers two main types of courses. The first is a four-year “Diploma in Traditional Sculpture,” recognized by the State Technical Education Department and AICTE. This diploma comprises six specialized streams: Temple Architecture, Stone Sculpture, Stucco (Plaster) Sculpture, Metal Sculpture, Wood Sculpture, and Traditional Painting. Each stream admits 10 students annually, totaling 60 admissions per year. Applicants must have completed Class 10 to be eligible for this program.
The second offering is a two-year certificate course in the traditional Kalamkari art of painting on textiles. This course also admits 10 students annually and similarly requires Class 10 qualification for admission.
All students admitted into these courses are provided with free accommodation and meals by TTD. Final-year diploma students are taken on study tours to renowned historical temples in South India for field-level exposure. Those who gain expertise in stone sculpture often find ample employment opportunities. Meanwhile, graduates of the Kalamkari course are able to pursue self-employment. This traditional art form is well-recognized both nationally and internationally.
Admission Process and Financial Support
Admissions are conducted annually through an entrance examination held in May or June, as per the norms set by the state government. For the academic year 2025–26, eligible candidates may apply from May 5 to June 20. Upon admission, TTD deposits ₹1 lakh in the name of each student in a nationalized bank. This amount, along with interest, is handed over to the student upon course completion as an incentive to establish themselves in their respective arts.
Employment Opportunities
Graduates of this institute are finding employment as instructors within the same institution, as temple architects, technical assistants, and contractors in the engineering department of TTD. Many have also secured positions in government departments such as Endowments, Tourism, and Archaeology. Several alumni have received national-level awards. Additionally, some graduates are involved in the production of deity idols on a contractual basis within the institute’s affiliated stone sculpture unit.
