Threats to Kill Mohammad Shami Spark Serious Concern
India’s national cricket team pace bowler Mohammad Shami has reportedly received death threats, triggering widespread alarm. According to a police complaint filed by his brother Haseeb, the threats were sent via email by unidentified individuals who also demanded a payment of ₹1 crore.
Haseeb filed the complaint with the Cyber Crime Police in Amroha district, Uttar Pradesh. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered, and preliminary investigations have been initiated. Police officials stated that the threatening messages were traced back to an email ID registered under the name “Rajput Sindar.” Authorities confirmed that further inquiry is ongoing to uncover the motive and identify the individuals behind the threats.
A police official said, “The reasons behind the threats and full details of the accused will be revealed during the course of the investigation.”
This incident follows a recent pattern of similar threats, including those made against former cricketer and Member of Parliament Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir reportedly received two separate threatening emails warning, “We will kill you,” which prompted him to file a complaint with Delhi Police.
At the time of the incident, Mohammad Shami is playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
