“I Failed in That Aspect”: Dhoni’s Crucial Remarks After RCB Defeat
As part of the Indian Premier League 2025, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) clinched a narrow victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by just two runs in a thrilling match held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Following the defeat, Chennai captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni accepted full responsibility for the loss and remarked that the team came very close to chasing a formidable target.

Batting first, RCB posted a massive total of 213 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs. In response, Chennai Super Kings fought hard till the final ball. Particularly impressive was 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre, whose outstanding maturity was on display as he smashed 94 runs off just 48 deliveries. Despite support from the other end by Ravindra Jadeja, who remained unbeaten on 77 from 45 balls, the team could not secure the win. Mhatre’s heroic effort ended in vain as CSK fell short.

As the match neared its conclusion and pressure mounted, Mahendra Singh Dhoni walked in to bat and scored 12 runs from 8 balls. After hitting a six off Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the preceding over, hopes of a CSK victory were reignited. However, the final over bowled by Yash Dayal turned the match on its head. Dhoni struggled to find the big shots, and with 13 runs needed off three balls, he was dismissed leg-before-wicket (LBW), marking a crucial turning point in the match.

Reflecting on the loss after the game, Dhoni stated, “When I came in to bat and looked at the required runs and remaining balls, I should have played a few more big shots to ease the pressure. I take responsibility for this loss.”

Even after Dhoni’s dismissal, the drama was far from over. A no-ball by Yash Dayal at waist height brought some relief for CSK. Shivam Dube then hit a six off the very first ball he faced, reducing the equation to 6 runs from 3 balls. Victory seemed within Chennai’s grasp, but Yash Dayal held his nerve and bowled the final deliveries with precision, securing a thrilling two-run win for Bangalore.

Earlier in the match, West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd delivered a blistering innings for RCB, scoring 53 runs off just 14 balls and propelling the scoreboard rapidly. He aggressively targeted bowlers Khaleel Ahmed and Matheesha Pathirana. Virat Kohli (62) and Jacob Bethell (55) also contributed half-centuries, helping RCB build a formidable total.
