Virat Kohli Explains His Sudden T20I Retirement Decision
Following India's victory in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, star batter Virat Kohli announced his retirement from international T20 cricket. He has now revealed the reason behind the timing of his decision.

Virat Kohli stated that his retirement was intended to make way for a new generation of players. He emphasized that young cricketers are ready to enter the team, and they need sufficient time and experience to prepare for the next World Cup.

“There are young players who need to come into the team and learn how to play in different parts of the world and handle pressure,” said Virat Kohli. “If we want them to be fully ready by the time the next World Cup arrives, they need at least two years. That’s why I decided to retire immediately after the T20 World Cup final.”

Virat Kohli, who played a match-winning innings in the final, concluded his T20 international career with a total of 125 matches and 4,188 runs.
