Woman Constable Dies by Suicide Over Marriage Issues in Jangaon

A woman constable died by suicide on Sunday in Jangaon district after reportedly facing prolonged disappointment over marriage prospects, despite being employed in a government position. The incident cast a pall of sorrow over Neelibanda Thanda in Kodakandla mandal.

According to police and family members, the deceased, identified as Neelima from Neelibanda Thanda, was selected as an Armed Reserve (AR) constable in 2020. After successfully completing her training, she was assigned duties under the Warangal Commissionerate.

Her parents had been seeking a suitable match for her. Although numerous proposals came forward owing to her status as a government employee, none of them materialized for various reasons. As a result, Neelima and her family had temporarily halted the search for a spouse.

Recently, they resumed their efforts to arrange her marriage. However, even after considering several new proposals, no alliance was finalized. Reportedly feeling humiliated and dejected by these repeated setbacks, Neelima became emotionally distressed.

On Sunday, when no one was at home, Neelima allegedly took the extreme step and died by suicide by hanging. Her death plunged the village of Neelibanda Thanda into mourning.

Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation. Based on a complaint lodged by Neelima’s family members, a case has been registered, and a formal inquiry is underway.
