Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s recent visit to Delhi has concluded on a highly productive note, with significant assurances and approvals secured from Union Ministers, particularly in the railway and IT sectors. The meetings, especially with Union Minister for Railways, Information Technology and Electronics Ashwini Vaishnaw, focused on accelerating the state’s development in critical areas.
During his Delhi tour, the Chief Minister first held a courtesy meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, where several state-related issues were discussed. He later met Ashwini Vaishnaw and presented key proposals aimed at boosting Andhra Pradesh’s progress. Two major themes dominated the discussions: transforming Andhra Pradesh into a national leader in semiconductor design and manufacturing, and strengthening railway infrastructure across the state.
Vaishnaw assured the state government of full support in both areas. He confirmed that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology would extend complete assistance for research and development (R&D), skill training, and capacity building in the semiconductor sector. The Centre also pledged to work closely with the state government on artificial intelligence (AI) development and the creation of AI infrastructure.
Major Railway Projects Receive Green Signal
Chandrababu Naidu comprehensively briefed the Union Minister on the state’s railway challenges and requirements. He urged the early completion of pending railway projects and sought approvals and funding for detailed project reports (DPRs). Vaishnaw responded positively and gave the green signal to several key initiatives.
Notably, the Centre agreed to establish full railway connectivity from the state’s nine ports to other parts of the country to improve cargo transportation. The Chief Minister noted that these projects would boost exports and imports through the ports and provide a significant fillip to industrial growth.
Naidu also placed several major project proposals before the Centre, including:
Vijayawada Bypass Line – estimated cost ₹3,197 crore (including two new bridges over the Krishna River)
Kovvur–Bhadrachalam Railway Project – ₹2,860 crore
Ongole–Donakonda Railway Project – ₹1,800 crore
Anakapalle–Kothavalasa Bypass Project – ₹2,190 crore
He further proposed a high-speed rail corridor between Amaravati and Visakhapatnam, capacity augmentation of the Vijayawada–Itarsi and Kharagpur–Vijayawada routes through four-laning within two years, establishment of large coaching terminals at Amaravati and Visakhapatnam, and the setting up of Railway PSU offices in Amaravati.
Good News for Visakhapatnam Passengers
Responding promptly to the Chief Minister’s requests for better passenger services, Ashwini Vaishnaw approved the introduction of a Vande Bharat train with sleeper facilities from Visakhapatnam to Bengaluru via Tirupati. He also cleared a daytime special train with seating accommodation between Visakhapatnam and Tirupati. Naidu additionally requested the immediate start of passenger train services on the newly constructed Kanigiri–Vijayawada railway line.
Union Minister of Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu and other public representatives accompanied the Chief Minister during the meetings.
Overall, the Delhi visit is being viewed as a significant boost to Andhra Pradesh’s development agenda, particularly in infrastructure, technology and industrial connectivity.
Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to attend a wedding ceremony at the residence of Supreme Court Judge Justice Vijay Bishnoi in Delhi on Saturday night. He will stay overnight in the capital and return to Vijayawada on Sunday morning.
