Unconfirmed Earthquake Prediction Sparks Alert in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh

The Earthquake Research and Analysis organization has issued a warning about the potential occurrence of an earthquake near Ramagundam in Telangana. According to their research, a major earthquake could occur in the vicinity of Ramagundam, with its intensity potentially affecting regions from Hyderabad and Warangal to Amaravati and parts of Maharashtra.
However, this forecast has not been confirmed by the government or any scientific institutions. Officials emphasized that it is not possible to predict earthquakes in advance. Experts stated that Telangana and Andhra Pradesh fall under Seismic Zones II and III of the Pacific classification, where only low to moderate intensity earthquakes are generally expected.
While earthquakes have occurred in this region in the past, they did not result in significant damage. Officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated there is no need for public concern based on unverified information. They noted that a 5.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in 1969 in the Ongole region of Prakasam district, while a 4.5 magnitude quake was recorded in Adilabad, Telangana, in 1998. Additionally, Hyderabad experienced minor tremors in 1984, 1999, and 2013.
Experts reiterated that earthquake prediction is not scientifically feasible and therefore there is no reason for panic. However, they advised people to remain alert and cautious.
