In a significant development in Uttarandhra politics, Majji Srinivasa Rao, popularly known as Chinna Srinu, a senior YSRCP leader and influential figure in Vizianagaram district, has quit the party and joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
Chinna Srinu, the nephew of YSRCP senior leader and MLC Botsa Satyanarayana, formally resigned from the YSRCP on Tuesday evening. In a letter addressed to party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, he stepped down from the post of Vizianagaram district YSRCP president as well as from the primary membership of the party. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Vizianagaram Zilla Parishad and has played an active role in key organisational responsibilities in the Uttarandhra region.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu personally welcomed Chinna Srinu into the TDP by draping a traditional yellow shawl (pasupu kanduva) around him in a warm reception. Chinna Srinu’s daughter Siri Sahasra and a large number of his followers also joined the TDP along with him.
Political observers view the development as a major setback for the YSRCP, particularly for Botsa Satyanarayana, given Chinna Srinu’s strong local base and influence in Vizianagaram district. Reports suggest that growing differences with his maternal uncle Botsa Satyanarayana and his increasing distance from party activities in recent times prompted the decision. However, Chinna Srinu has attributed his resignation to personal reasons.
The exit comes at a crucial time ahead of local body elections, when the YSRCP is seeking to retain its hold in Vizianagaram. On the other hand, Chinna Srinu’s induction is expected to further strengthen the TDP’s organisational network and cadre strength in the district.
Political circles across the region are closely watching how this high-profile switch will reshape the power equations in Vizianagaram district politics in the coming days.
